Ethics

The reputation of The African American Student Leadership Institute and its participants rest upon perceptions. The goal of the Code of Ethics is to assure the reputation of AASLI is not blemished due to any individual’s conduct. All participants must understand the actions of one can impact the relationships within AASLI and other Texas A&M University constituents. Adherence to the Code of Ethics is an expectation and upon discovery of any breech of the Code, the Coordinators and Administrators will conduct an internal investigation. AASLI Code of Ethics includes:

UPSTANDING CHARACTER. AASLI acknowledges needs for expressive freedom and differences in individual perceptions of what is appropriate. However, before engaging in any vulgar behavior or activities (verbal, explicit overtures, attire and/or sexual deviance), it is expected all participants will exercise mature reasoning, adhere to Texas A&M Student Rules and consider the impact it will have on other AASLI participants.

RATIONALITY. Good judgment should be utilized at all times. Having an innate sense of right and wrong will help individuals work together in a more productive manner.

INTEGRITY. All participants should be honorable in nature, character and self-representation. Sacrificing principles of morality and ethical standards are outside of the social responsibility of AASLI.

ACCOUNTABILITY. What participants verbalize should correlate with individual actions. AASLI credibility hinges upon participant follow through and reliability. Even in the face of challenges, making and sticking to decisions will heighten the credibility of AASLI internal and external interactions.

INTERFACE. Conflicts of interest, real or apparent, may arise at any time and in multiple areas. However participants and coordinators should share an interest in avoiding negative displays of these conflicts. These conflicts are to reach peaceable compromises centered on a platform of professionalism.

THE GOLDEN RULE. All participants will not carelessly, gratuitously or maliciously harm another individual through physical or verbal action. AASLI expects respect and consideration in all its efforts and interactions, so all participants will showcase the same attributes to others.
